Basking in the tirumphant glow of nearly done

I moved into my current house on 11.1.04 - last week, for the first time, I cooked and consumed an honest-to-goodness dinner in the place. Now, I know many would think that this is simply the life of a man who subsists on takeout, but you'd be wrong. I have had to eat out and take-out very regularly, but only because the 2nd day I had the house I totally demolished the kitchen - it had to go - drastic action was needed. In the coming weeks, I'l be adding images and video of various stages of the transformation - as well as uploading some documentation on things like Hardwood Floor Installation,  Joist-Sistering, and Concrete.

I've got work to do, certainly, another few weeks until every last detail had been seen to - but nearly done is just fine right now.

My new fridge is coming. I'm stoked.

So I had this problem with the ol'kitchen remodel project. When you read these 'how-to-remodel-on-a-budget' books or articles or whatever, which I have done a lot of, you find out they all say basically the same thing. One recurring theme was reuse the appliances you have. That's all well and good if the applicances you have are in good condition, match your design to some extent, and of course function correctly.I got a huge stainless-steel Amana fridge with the house, but the giant is like 35"Wx32"D and I really don't have room for the thing. I'm confident I'll sell it though, so email me if you wanna buy it :->

Anyway, My helpful handyperson working on my project suggested a Danish-made model called the ConServ, by Equator. It was designed by David Lewis [click on 'Contents', scroll down to 'Design'], who has also designed about a million other killer things for Bang & Olufsen. It uses very little energy, and has a footprint about 24"Wx24"D - it compensates by being 6'7" tall. A company in Minneapolis happened to know of one in Wisconsin that was $360 off because they weren't going to carry them anymore - this was the very last one, still in the crate from Denmark. They called today and it should be coming to the house next week. It will work with my design perfectly, sits flush against the wall since it doesn't have coils, but instead relies on 2 compressors.

 

 

Explain: The Black Eye

IF you're wondering where I got the black eye in my pic on the main page...I'll tell you. If not, read something else.

So I'm remodelling my kitchen/dining room in a house I just purchased. It's been quite a ride, and I've learned a ton. One thing I learned the hard way [see image] was that if you're prying loose lumber, be careful where your head it is at. 2 x 6s, Floorboards, Ceiling Joists, these can all cause harm to the human face.  In my case, watch out for your hands with ceilings and your face with floorboards...or was it the other way around? Doesn't matter.

I'm all healed up, and I'm kinda missing the black eye - a few girls told me it made me look tough.
