I've been working like a madman cleaning and organizing my basement, a.k.a. the place where tools go to be lost, and boxes go to languish. In the bad-old days, if you weren't careful, your clean clothes were dirty again in the 2 minutes it took you to get them upstairs.
When the old washer broke, I called and asked about repair. When I described the problem, and asked if it could be fixed - they guy said sure, for more than a new washer would cost.
Then, I took my Dad along on the venture to pick out a new washer and dryer [since he was in town anyway washing Em and Jon's windows], and the first thing he said was:
"You know, you can't very well call yourself a good Democrat if you don't get the new energy efficient kind."
Damn values.
So here they are, in all their glory - 4 times the price of top-loading, but a gazillion times better for the planet. They get delivered tomorrow, and my level of excitement continues to amaze and concern me:
UPDATE: I got them today, but haven't tried them yet. Sure are pretty though...Note: I did not get those drawer/stands you see in the above image - those were $129/each and I couldn't justify it - I don't need the storage. Other than it raises them up...which would be nice, but not for $260. No, I couldn't stack them - but you can with the stacking kit which is....I think...$129 :-)
Garrick wanted to know what these are, model #s, and whatnot - here's the goods - I'll be sure and post on the performance of these fine machines in the next few days..
LG Electronics
3.42 Cu. Ft. Front Load Washer, Titanium
Model WM1815CS
LG Electronics
7.0 Cu. Ft. Front Control Gas Dryer, Titanium
Model DLG2525S
UPDATE2: It's true. While I couldn't see my way to buying the stands, I did pay about $200 more for the titanium color over white. What can I say? I liked the color and I have to look at 'em every week - I want them to look cool.
