From AdRants, from the New York Observer ‘Bottle Racket’ – Wes Anderson, fresh of the love-it-or-hate-it ‘Life Aquatic’, is back with a…commercial. <sigh>. for Coke [Dasani] <sigh>. As if Coke isn’t evil enough [they allow murder at their bottling facilities] – their CEO took in a whopping $105m, and seems to have lost it’s ethics handbook. But I digress…
So this is the thing – it’s not that he’s making commercials, NYO article mentions he’s done ads for Sony and Ikea, so whatever, but Coke is just fucking evil. I’m swearing off their products. I did it for meat, and now I want to do it for Coke.
Coke doesn’t deserve my business if this is the way they are going to conduct theirs. I’m sad an artist I respected, like Wes Anderson, chose to do this ad – did he do this because the agency is a hip new place run from a Hudson Loft – Ernest Lupinacci, a partner and creative director at Anomaly who wrote and conceived the television campaign:: "The idea behind the spots was that if you found someone who only drank water, and if they drank this water, it would be so much better," Mr. Lupinacci said. "It dawned on me: My dog only drinks water. Animals are the perfect spokespersons for bottle water. Playfully, it’s like the classic testimonials. We liked the idea of being in your face. Except if we just had a person talking about the product, that would be a drag."
