Strib is reporting that the suspect was ejected from the bar by the victim, and we all know how that happens, obviously the suspect was intoxicated and disruptive. The suspect returned shortly thereafter with a handgun and shot the bouncer in the back. He then jumped in the river, was fished out by the cops, went to the hospital for to treat hypothermia, then went to jail.
My thoughts and prayers go out to friends and family of the victim, as well as everyone at Nye's. I'm in there fairly often, and the staff seems like a tight-knit group. I'm sure today is a very tough day for all involved.
This is a tragedy, and yet another example of the out-of-control gun violence in our city. We can pass a law to curb smoking to protect the health of empoyees in the service industry, but we can't outlaw handguns in our cities?
